Thumbs up!
It’s not often that I can give any indication of how a race is going only 3 miles in but last Sunday at Stowe was one of those times. This was my first time in the state of Vermont and my first time at this race. It’s not like I was avoiding it but it would always fall on the same weekend as Falmouth. Got up there on Saturday and settled into the Golden Eagle Resort. (two thumbs up on this place) I went for a quick 5 mile run on this incredible bike path they built years ago. Sunday morning we ate at the resort because breakfast was included. I purposely ate French Toast knowing I had good luck on some of my runs eating that prior. Yeah I know, bizarre. Met up with a huge crew for a warm up and then got down to the “starting line,” dunked
my head in the nearby river and we were off. The start is in a field and it just kind off sucked because it was narrow and dusty. The first mile freaked me out because the split was so slow and I thought I was around 5:25 ish but I had 5:50…..WHAT! Turns out the mile was long and the second mile split was almost 11 flat I think. We made a quick left going up hill and then all of a sudden it was either flat or downhill for what seemed like forever. I was moving by people the entire time and was very comfortable the whole race. I even had a conversation with the guy next to me at mile 6 about the cow manure smell. Worked my way up just past mile 7 and tried to go after Levy. He was hurting and I thought I had him but the guy in front of me woke him up trying to go by him. I ran out of room but at least I had something to focus on in the last half mile. Cooled down literally with a big crew in the river afterwards. Had a great time and look forward to Carver although my lack of leg speed may be an issue.

Oh Yeah how about this heat…….holy sh-t!!
