Rhody 5k…………
I guess the 5k went pretty well. It’s never been one of my favorite distances because there is no room for error and it just seems to go by so quickly. The course changed a bit from the last time I ran it and I seem to think it’s the slowest version of all the courses I’ve run here. I think I’ve done like 6 races here and most of them are on different courses.
Ben and I talked about trying to run 5:10 pace into the first mile and try and hang onto that pace going up the small hill just before mile 2. Our split at the mile was 5:12 and it just didn’t feel comfortable. The second mile seems to take forever and I started to lose focus and I could feel myself slowing down. I crested the hill with Pawlicki and Ben and then tried to put in a decent effort until the very last right hand turn. I was starting to tie up and then Ben came by me and a few seconds later, right at the line, Pawlicki got me also. It was a very similiar finish to a few years back when Greg Ward, Patrick Rich and I battled to the finish with the same results. I guess I didn’t learn anything back then….DOH….
Next up……10,000 meters…………at least it’s flat.
