Foxboro 10 miler

So I actually signed up a few days early for this one. I had been down to this road race back in 2006 and ran pretty well 55 and change. I wasn’t going there to set the world on fire but to just get an indicator of how much work I have left to not be embarrassed at NB. the plan I had in mind was to go out real comfortably and not get caught up in what was going on in front of me. After seeing who was actually there to race I thought maybe I could get sucked out BUT I was smart enough to hold myself back. I thought if I felt good enough that maybe I could run the second half a bit faster than the first half. I forgot how rolling the first half of this course is and it seemed to take more out of me than I thought. I rolled out pretty well running the first mile just under 6. Dan came by me a bit before the mile and I thought about tucking in behind him and follow along. I let him go and it’s probably a good thing. Miles 2-5 seemed to come a bit slower than I liked. After 5 I made a conscious effort to go after some of the runners just ahead. I thought this would keep me focused on something other than the next mile marker. I had company with a BAA guy and Martin Tighe. I was fresh enough and comfortable enough to carry on a brief conversation with the BAA guy about my plan to start picking it up. He said it was a good plan and we proceeded to pick runners off left and right. It seemed like we were going at a pretty good clip but my splits were not all that impressive. We got over the last climb of the day and the BAA guy took off leaving me and Martin to beat each other up over the last 2 miles. He out kicked me with about 100 yards to go. I blame the volunteer who told us the finish was just up the street on the left but it wasn’t. I knew better, I got caught listening to somebody who didn’t have a clue. All in all everything went well and I feel like I got what I wanted out of it. I’m out of hibernation and looking for more.

Splits:
5:52
5:37
5:58
6:03??
5:47(29:20)
5:50
5:55
6:03
5:46
5:59??
The second half felt faster…oh well.
