I'm over here now!
I’ve been getting most of my important long runs in but some of those midweek runs have suffered a bit in the last couple of weeks. Work has been pretty crazy and getting out on time has been a challenge. I have made a conscious effort to do some quicker tempo runs these last few weeks however. This past Sunday was a solo run over in Nahant. I had no real plan except to keep it between 10 or...

solo weekend
After I survived the 20 mile run last week, I caught a wonderful chest cold that held my miles down to 46 this past week. However, it is the biggest week since May of 2009. I have never been a real high miles guy so anywhere from 40-50 a week is a good week for me. I’ve been doing one hill workout a week and I’ll explain that workout in another post. This past weekend I found myself...
The Little Kahuna
So the first edition of the Little Kahuna 20 mile run is in the books. Much to my dismay this run did not take place in Hawaii. I’m going to have to speak to the directors about this little oversight. There were about 10 of us who met up at Winners Cirlce and car pooled back down to Dan’s house for the start of the trek. It was bitching cold and the first few miles were rough. The pace...
It's a new day
It’s a new life, it’s a fresh start
You’re a good soul, you’ve a kind heart
It’s your moment, it’s a picture
We can do this, I’m coming with ya, I’m coming with ya
I’m coming with ya, I’m coming with ya
It’s a new day, it’s a new day
It’s a new day, it’s a new day

Cranmore Hill Climb
Pretty cool photo taken by my daughter
I closed the month of June with the Cranmore Hill Climb which served as the lone selection race for the world team. I had no real expectations for myself here. I went in with the idea of just having some fun and with no real pressure to trash myself. The experience was incredible and if the course is similar next year I will be back. The course was 3 loops...
Ist Annual CMS 10,000 Invitational
June has been a busy month with some different racing events on my calendar. This past Sunday was a 10,000 meter race at the New England Track and Field Championships. It seemed to me to be a pretty low key event. Having never gone to anything like this I kind of thought there would be more of a buzz with maybe some spectators and more athletes. The 10,000 was the first event of the day. I have...

and now for some news
I haven’t posted in awhile so I figured I might as well put up some updates. I guess it’s a good thing that I don’t have enough time as of late to post. My running is slowly ramping up and all the little things that have been causing me grief have finally subsided. The weather has got me fired up to get out there and be miserable in the heat. (love it!)
I was out of my element...

Foxboro 10 miler
So I actually signed up a few days early for this one. I had been down to this road race back in 2006 and ran pretty well 55 and change. I wasn’t going there to set the world on fire but to just get an indicator of how much work I have left to not be embarrassed at NB. the plan I had in mind was to go out real comfortably and not get caught up in what was going on in front of me. After...
The Improv
I was thinking about going to the Bradford race last Saturday but opted to sleep in. The plan was to get the racing shoes on and do 4x1 mile repeats. I was pretty fired up being out there and things felt real good. I did however get chased down on my second mile by 2 ginormous dogs. I guess they were pretty unhappy that I was in their neighborhood. The next day was an upbeat 10 miler all at or...

1+1=longer run
Well I had some good company today. The Polish hammer aka Jim Pawlicki, came over today for a solid 10 miles. The last time I was on my feet for this long was with Ben and it was pretty ugly. Today was great, no real issues other than a damn knot in my right quad that refuses to give in. This is a good start to the week so hopefully I can stay motivated to put together a string of runs.
So who...
Odds and Ends
I am trying to shake this weekend warrior syndrome. I find myself with no motivation to venture outside during the week with all this cold and snow. I’m trying to figure out how I ever did it in years past. Today and yesterday were nice runs with the sun shining. I’m behind a bit but I think I can get there. If I could stop being a nice guy at work I could get home at a reasonable hour...
2010....screw and don't come back!
Well that seems appropriate. In terms of life in general there is only one way to go and that is up. 2010 is done and I couldn’t be happier. I watched DD run a nice 4 miler today and then went for my second run on pavement in about 3 weeks. I really have no goals in 2011 except these:
RUN!!!!!!!!!!
oh and maybe take a poke at “the...

Sunny and 62 degrees
Well at least that’s what it was inside on my treadmill. Not much happening but I think I’m FINALLY turning a corner with my upper right leg. I hope to be able to join some of these CMS frolics soon. If so than I can be ready to race New Bedford……how’s that grab ya?

Pain lies on the riverside
Man I wish I could have some good news every once in awhile. I hooked up with Ben Strain for a Bradley Palmer “run” this morning. Given the fact that I ran an hour yesterday, I knew this was going to be a bit rough, I just didn’t realize how rough. Right from the word go I had trouble, spraining my right ankle real bad in the first mile or so. It was one of those sprains where you hear that pop...
EBSB 5k
With the help of Krissy and Jim, I made my way down the street for a quick test on how my legs are doing with the minimal training I have been doing. I had no expectation at all but was hoping not to embarrass myself out there. I was please that I was able to maintain a sub 5:40 pace without to much trouble. I felt pretty good the next day so I guess things are going ok. I started a new job this...
Next?
Training is going well with some recent road work which had been real difficult early on. Bishop Fenwick has a nice xc course which is where I was yesterday. The course has a little of everything which will allow me to do a bunch of different workouts depending on my mood.
I have committed to try and “race” this weekend and no it’s not New Englands. I think it will be just a...

Pretty cool story about some football history in my family.
Rust Buster
As all the reports come in from this past weekend it’s clear that CMS is becoming a beast of a team. We are so deep that we can cover just about any event with incredible results from everyone. It seems like we have guys at every race. It’s bitter sweet that I haven’t been able to run a marathon for this team but hopefully that will change.
I had a breakthrough week last week...
Goat Path
I only managed 3 runs last week and one of them was an hour effort on the roads. One of the reasons why it was only 3 runs is because that hour on hard pavement kicked the crap out of my right hip/glute area. I realize it’s piroformis but damn it will not go away. So I have found myself at Lynn Woods doing some runs in there because it’s an easy 7 mile drive. Some of my best racing...

Mondays kind of suck not having any work to go to. Everyone leaves the house and I end up sipping coffee trying to figure out how to spend my day. The only thing that is keeping me sane is the fact that I can go for a run whenever I want. I decided to try Bradley Palmer again after it didn’t go so well last time out. The drizzle felt good and cross country was definitely in the air with...
Back to Back
So I woke up yesterday feeling no pain whatsoever in my adductors or my glute which is a good sign I’m on the right track. I kept the run on grass yesterday and I think I might have been grinning from ear to ear with every step I took. This was the first time in over a year a ran an entire run with no pain at all. Today I went up to Lynn Woods to test everything out on some hilly trails and...
50
Ran 50 minutes yesterday. I was going to try and run my regular 8 mile route. I thought better of it 30 minutes into the run. My right glute seems to get better as I run. I think I just get used to that charlie horse feeling. I still cannot run 2 days in a row, hopefully this will change soon. I think tomorrow I will put in an effort to do some hill repeats.
Saturday morning I will be...
Zippy
Yes those are racing shoes….I haven’t considered putting a pair of these on until today. Everything was feeling good so I decided it was time to do a few 1/2 mile repeats. The splits were nothing special but I got it done with no real problems. The next step I guess is to put a couple of days in back to back. The run was a bit shy of 5.5 miles so I think I can go longer on a regular...
Old School
If you ever want or are looking for one of the toughest SOB old school courses to race look no further than the 25k Cape Ann course. This race is one of my favorite races of all time. It has been run for 77 years on rte. 127 in Gloucester. This course is pretty brutal. It kicks you in the balls every damn mile. I have been on this course and raced it many many times. There are at least 16 hills on...

Play Ball
Sorry not a baseball reference. Last week I finally found the spot that had been bothering me high up on my hamstring. I have been feeling a dull ache in my upper hamstring and ass for awhile and I thought it was piroformis syndrome. I guess maybe it’s just a knot or something so I’m placing a baseball under my hamstring when sitting down.
I’ve been running strictly on grass...
left right left right
I had my first legitimate run today of a whopping 4 miles. I’m going to try and put a couple of days together to see how it feels. I could feel that stare coming back today. You know, the stare of a focused runner peering forward listening to their own footsteps….left right left right.
Nuttin' Special
Pretty dreary day, I ran 25 minutes inside today. I felt pretty bouncy and everything felt ok except for a dull ache with my sciatic nerve. Woke up with another pinched nerve somewhere in my upper back……….ice.
Double J, slow the F down, your 10k pr looks crazy good. :) nice run.
Forward
I ran 20 minutes yesterday on grass. I’m going to run every other day and bike the other days. I’m trying to keep loose but those adductors are so frigin tight. Sleeping has been better so maybe I can make some progress. It has been suggested that i take some yoga but I would end up just staring at all the asses in the room. Hmmmmm, maybe this can work. :)
Tick....Tick
I guess every second does count. The CMS men’s team took second place at Bridge of Flowers by a slim 2 seconds! This team is so deep this year it’s incredible. I think Justin might be hurt but everyone stepped up and raced their ass off.
This weekend is the second year in a row I’ve missed Falmouth. I promised the people who are in charge of organizing the event that I would be...
100 over 60
I planned on running today, it wouldn’t be much but I thought maybe 3 miles or so couldn’t hurt.
Prior to this I had to get up early and get down to my doctors office to get blood drawn for my upcoming physical next week. Here is where it gets really neat. Lady takes my right arm and proceeds to dig around for a vein. With no luck she pulls it out and proceeds to prep my left arm for...
is this thing on?
So here it is, my first rant on Tumblr. As I sat on my Pro Flex bike today in the nice hot summer heat with sweat dripping off my big fat nose I thought it was time to join the blogging community and let my teammates read the bullshit that’s been swimming around my noggin the last 4 or so months. I also thought it might be a good idea to have this crap on record so I can get a good laugh...
